Nursing school
One thing I have yet to figure out in nursing school is why so much emphasis is placed on something that nurses working on a daily basis never do. I'm talking about care plans and case studies. In every hospital I have been to for clinicals, the nurses laugh when they see what we're having to do and tell us, "Don't worry, once you finish school, they're all done by computer." I've seen students fail completely out of nursing school over care plans. This is crazy. Depending on the requirements of the school, care plans are often multi-page, double spaced, in APA format, complete with citation. Fail it, you're out of nursing school. One nurse made the comment once "It's no wonder we have a nursing shortage in this country. We're failing students on care-plans." To me, the 20+ hours spent writing a case study could be better spent studying the textbook. There are some times when individualized care plans are needed, mostly in long term care. To me, it would be more logical to spend the limited time we have in nursing school to learn what we need to know to function as a nurse. Then, after graduation, add additional skills as required by the job we are in.

My new book, The Black Baroness, is now available at Crimson Frost Books. The
Black Baroness is the story of a Kelli, a woman with a fantasy to live out.
After spending en evening in a bar teasing and enticing men, Kelli gets taught
a “hard” lesson about being a tease.
I’m sitting down today with Kelli for a little question and
answer time.
R.B. Michaels- Good evening Kelli. Thanks for taking time to
talk with me.
Kelli- Good evening. It’s my pleasure!
R.B.- So first, tell me a little about you. What would you want
readers to know?
K- Well, I’m 48 years old, divorced with two grown sons. I have
a wonderful man I’ve been dating for over a year now. I’m actually a very kind
hearted person.
R.B.- That’s not the Kelli we see in the book.
K- True. That was sort of an alter-ego thing. Something I had
wanted to try, just to see what my other side was like.
R.B.- You were pretty rough on some of the guys that night.
K-Well, I wanted to give them a little of their own medicine.
Some guys think all they have to do is show up and they can have any woman they
want. They needed to learn that’s not the case.
R.B. I see. So this is a little payback on behalf of women everywhere?
K- (Laughing). You could say that.
R.B. Once Curt gets you in the hotel room, he blindfolds you and
another couple joined in. What was that like?
K- Exciting. Mysterious. Curt and I had talked about that
before, the idea intrigued me. I never knew until it happened he was actually
going to do it.
R.B.- Would you ever want to do that again?
K- Maybe. So long as I knew Curt was there to watch out for me.
I must say, it was quite an experience.
R.B.- Thank you for taking time to talk with us Kelli.
K-Thank you.
